so what rts games are out there

hi guys been years since i did pc gaming but now getting a lappy with a decent gfx card and want to get back into those rts style games

my all time fave of battle for middle earth series will be getting a play if i can work out how to get it running on 8

but other than that what other games are out there like that(NEWISH ONES ), you know build this and make an army improve tech etc etc

Medieval Total War II (I am a total broken record on this game but it is outstanding despite it's age and the battles still look incredible).

Total War: Shogun 2

Total War: Empire

The Anno series are quite nice, although battles are pretty dire and fairly boring.

I tend to avoid more modern era RTS as I prefer Roman and medieval eras.

Don't know slightly older games like MTWII, you can max everything including unit side and have 4000 individually animated men on your screen at a time

Sins of a solar empire: Rebellion is on special today on steam, check around for the best deal though - just chucking that in as it was quite good fun despite being futuristic.

i have seen something called starcraft but cant work out if it is single player or just online lol

hoping bfme will run if not ill have to try total war

also enjoyed diablo series back in the day so might try 3

Seeing as you like BFME, I'd definitely get Kingdoms expansion for MIITW and then get the Third Age mod - great stuff!

I would suggest company of heroes, even if its not your normal type of RTS game its really good.

Heard of World in conflict?

This game is similar to some others that have been suggested (company of heroes, men of war) in that the traditional base building gameplay is ditched in favour of resource point capturing.

Frankly, all these games are awesome and you must play them all! (Company of heroes first)

Supreme Commander Forged Alliance (not to be confused with the "consolized" Supreme Commander 2) is still about the best futuristic RTS at the moment (until Planetary Annihilation arrives *fingers crossed*). The only drawback is it will make "basic" games like Starcraft 2 and Red Alert 3 seem boring.
