(Assuming you got off the plane with no/no serious, injuries)

Would you...

a) Put it down to experience and not participate in any damages claims on the grounds that it is basically immoral to do so (After all, you didn't suffer anything more than a minor delay to your travels)?

b) Join in with all the claimers because you would be nuts to turn down the opportunity to get $1,000,000 and be set up for life?

:/

B I don't have morals.

I still suffer from the incident and have sleepless nights, flashbacks and stress. It’s difficult to get over something like this, you just don’t expect it would ever happen to you. Despite my struggle to get over the incident I know we are all very lucky not to have been more seriously injured

None of the uninjured passengers on that flight are getting $1,000,000 or being 'set up for life'.

It was a minor incident handled perfectly by the flightcrew and the settlements will reflect this.

Probably B, more to compensate for the fact I will most likely never get on a plane again. It can cover the cost for other means of transport when I go on holiday. ;)

What next, never getting on a car again if your tyre blows out or the engine goes bang?

Never getting on a train again if the engine fails and you need to be removed from it?

All this incident did was show how safe air travel is and how well trained the crews are. To not get on a plane again because of it would be most bizarre. The engine failed, caught fire, and everyone was safely evacuated from it as per procedure. What aspect of it would stop you getting on a plane again?!

Yeah but you can't make up some bull about how your life was in danger and you deserve X amount to ease your suffering then.

B because gibe da mone.

Also because that'd scare the pants off me flying anytime soon.

Only 14 of the passengers required hospital treatment for minor injures

And that would likely have been carpet burns from the escape chutes!

The whole thing is nonsense! But they are still trying (And the legal world is mad enough for them to get it too, or at least a good "settlement" because the airlines dont want the bad publicity from fighting it or the expense of paying corporate lawyers fees for the next five years )

PTSD Pah!

I am with Winston on this one.

“There is nothing more exhilarating than to be shot at with no result"

I reckon I would find walking away from a burning plane essentially unscathed pretty damn thrilling!

Hell, I could probably get away with free beers for a year or two just telling the story!

Yup!

(OTOH, Perhaps I would do it for the money! I am somewhat torn on this one between morals and pragmatism! I am not getting any younger etc ;) :/ )

Probably B.

I don't think it would occur to me to file a lawsuit, I think I'd just be glad to survive unscathed. But if someone else started legal action and there was the opportunity for me to get involved then I think I would. It's not just about the money it's about finding out exactly what happened, holding those responsible accountable for their failings (assuming they exist) and making sure an incident like this doesn't happen again.

Because none of this would happen without a lawsuit?

If it's not negligence then there should be no lawsuit IMO. At the end of the day these are complex machines with millions of failure modes.
