I made my university decision recently, and chose coventry as my number 1. (For automotive design it has the best name)
I'd only been down for a couple of days and as a result didn't see much...

What is the city like? Is it nice? Are the people generally alright?

Rough? I'm from a smallish town and so don't know what to expect!

What's the night life like? Many clubs? Specifically rock stuff...?

Errrr, and anything else I should know? I'm kinda worried now haha...

Cheers,
Ash

:( Damn...
It has the best reputation in the country for car design. One of the best in the world... I seriously hope I'm not disappointed :(

Cheers guys!

The city has it's rough spots, and has quite a high Chav:Human being ratio, but I've been worse places (London springs to mind....). You got living arrangements planned yet? I lived in Priory Hall for two years, then moved to Singer Halls for a year before I moved to where I am now (Barras Lane in Coundon). I wouldn't recommend Priory - only stayed there as I'd made some good friends there, and we were all too lazy to find somewhere else at that point! We moved out of there as a group into a block in Singer.

Applying for singer... Got my application pre dated as december... So should hopefully get it... Gotta stick a £100 in with it like... Plus £200 later, just for the priveledge...

Cool. Singer has many advantages - it's near the City centre, it's only a 5 minute walk to the SU/Uni, and it has student parking spaces. One disadvantage - it's fairly close to the warzone that is Hillfields, but there hasn't been a serious explosion in ages :p

Oh man :(

Do I have to walk through there to get to the uni?
When I was there, loads of students were walking about with their iPods out so I assumed it couldn't be that rough...
Oh well, I'm sure I'll be alright... People always think teesside is rough I guess, but I've always been alright. So maybes its the same...

So about crime... How much am I insured for?
I mean, I'm gonna have a £800 PC... Dual 19" TFTs... 6.1 surround sound... A guitar and amp... various electrical gadgetry... What if I get robbed? Would all that be covered?
I hate asking stupid questions. Sorry :(

Thrust 2 and Thrust SSC *both of which were partially developed at Coventry uni. :D*

*Fun fact*
The guy that drove thrust SSC is from my humble little town :|

Pretty wierd that.

Seems the general opinion is it's a bit boring but not worse than london then?
I must admit that when I went for an open day, the architecture is rather poor...

My god, what a depressing lot half of you are!

I goto warwick uni and I lived in leamington spa, and now coventry ... Coventry is far better.

Much cheaper, more choice - never had any problems myself although my mate in a group of 5 got jumped by some chavs last year, as said, as long as you're street wise you'll be fine.

Ikon's just had a name-change with Diva having a total remake - they're now known as Ignite and Lava - a really top night on a wednesday (thou not much rock), i live just round the corner from the jailhouse and that has some great live rock bands quite often! As others have said, steer clear of Hillfields (except the Singer Hall compound - really pleasant!).
Just dont take it all to heart and you'll be fine, if you end up not liking it that much then remember you're only there for a few years of fun (and little bit of work...) then you're "set for life" (whether that is true or not is a completely different thread!) with ya degree.

As others have said, the people you meet and mix with will be the most important aspect of your university days so make an effort over the first term and you'll be sorted.

Theres a lava and ignite in boro (Middlesbrough). It looks nice as but is full of chavs and drugs... Strangely they sent me a birthday card and some vouchers... No idea how they knew when my birthday was and my adress etc :|
