Hi guys

My PC is now over 5 years old and contained some used parts even back then! So is in need of a replacement. I'm starting with the 'don't change much' parts first, case, PSU, fans etc, before getting the core components together last, to spread the cost without risking things becoming obsolete or much cheaper in the meantime

I've roughly kept up with CPU etc developments, but I've ignored the les glamorous world of the PSU, to the point where I no longer know which brands are reliable. Are corsair still decent, or are they now made in Croydon by a butcher?

The last unit I bought was an OCZ modXstream 500, for reference on how out of touch I am

I'm looking for a modular unit (ideally fully modular, but I can survive if the 24pin atx cable and similar are permanent), reliable and likely around 600W, as I like to have a little spare capacity for when the capacitors degrade with age

The system will consist of
- a high end i5 or low end i7, decent motherboard and a couple of sticks of ram
- GTX 460 to start, replaced by a £150-170 top-of-midrange graphics card... With absolutely no chance of crossfire or sli
- a couple of ssd's and hdd's
- a handful of fans
- an nzxt hue led unit
- a powered fan controller

So nothing too strenuous.

Reliability is a must, as modular as possible, preferably black or black and white, quiet and efficient... But I can survive a bit of noise

What's my best bet?

I have used Seasonic and EVGA PSUs never heard any noise from any of them , you should also consider SuperFlower too I think ...also I have used XFX PSUs too...and again never had any noise issues

First I was like "Who are SuperFlower"

Then I was like "LED'S!!!!"

Sold.

Although I'm getting a NZXT HUE unit, and I'm thinking I should stick to lights I can turn off, as I sometimes leave the PC on overnight and the lights are annoying: sounds like Seasonic are still the way to go otherwise?
