Ok, have been using Speedfan, and the temps were sort of what I would have expected - the version I am running is not supposed to under-read by 15C...

So decided to test some other progs to be sure, and both everest and coretemp report about 15C higher....

This means that my quad is idling around 45 to 50 at 3GHz with only default (1.2875) volts.

That just seems awfully high to me for that speed at those volts... surely the Tuniq should be doing a better job than that?

is that on stock heatsink? if so looks about right.. maybe slightly hot but not that much

PC7 with both fans pulling in
Scythe Kama bay exhaust, psu exhaust and gfx exhaust
DS3 P965
Q6600 @3.2
1.264(CPU-Z)
TT120 with Scythe 1600 fan at 800rpm...

Idle - 34-36
prime95 - 43 - 46

Only TT120 lapped

Ok, have been using MX-1 paste for a while now, and my temps have been where they are for a while.

I discovered I had some Akasa silver base dthermal compound lying about, so tried that and my temps are down by 5C, to 40/45. About 5C cooler on load too.

Still about 5 degrees higher than would like.

Do the silver based thermal compounds get better after a little breaking in, or can I expect my temps to stay as they are?

You know what, I have never really been satisfied with the temps from my Tuniq, even when it was cooling my e4300... just don't think it works as well as it should.

Might look at getting something else.

Pnuemonic, what you use?

There is pretty good airflow through the case.

With fans on full, goes down another 5 degrees off, but that still leaves my load temps around 60C.

Still think that is high for my settings... or am I just expecting too much?

yup that is pretty high load temps for 3Ghz clock

if you have re-seated the heatsink, re-applied paste and have good airflow then am at a bit of a loss!

Do you have the stock cooler? I would suggest putting your clock back to stock and then run prime for 30mins with the tuniq on... see what temps you get and then do the same with the stock heatsink.. should be a good difference between them if not a duff turniq maybe?

I wouldn't worry about your temps; they're certainly not high enough to damage the Q6600 (they are, after all, not that different to what you get with the stock cooler at stock), but it's worth checking stuff anyway - no point running hot if you don't have to, hey? Especially come summer.

My first guess would be that you applied too much thermal paste.

Ok, back at stock, load has temps in mid 60's.... guess will have to see what I get with the stock cooler some time, but this is currently not very good.
