So what's the consensus on LED monitors?

I'm looking at getting a 22" monitor at the moment. I'm thinking I want to go LED at the moment as in principal I would expect it to look better and they don't seem much more expensive.

Am I really going to see much benefit with LED or am I just making it harder for myself to make a decision by discounting standrd LCDs?

Aside from power efficiency (so you save a bit of money in the long run), no warm up time for it to reach full luminance and possibly better contrast, there's not much difference between LED back lighting and conventional CCFL ones. In fact, image quality can even be worse with most companies using blue LEDs so you get a blue tint on the screen.

I'd say LED backlit monitors are not worth the price premium (unless it's a full array one, instead of edge lit), so don't limit yourself by ignoring CCFL backlit monitors.

That's kinda what I was begining to wonder. Think I may be better off just looking at what fits my budget and requirements and not limiting my options so much with LED.

I take it full array LED monitors are going to be stupidly expensive.

This XL24 with full-array RGB LED backlighting set me back a mere £4000. Well it would have if I didn't "acquire" it for business purposes. Full-array WLED backlighting is currently limited to high-end TVs I believe. I don't know of any monitors that use full-array WLED.

Yes they are good, but their LED backlit range not so much (washed out colours etc.) The LG is a tried, tested amd well received screen though.
