So what's up with this?

Sure you don't

Can I ask how big is your image? An average image I restore at work is usually about 10 gig or so and takes roughly 10 mins, so I'm intrigued to know what sort of size your image is to only take 5 seconds to restore.
To restore my image on my home pc (roughly 530Gb) with all my games, photos, videos etc etc on would take a damn sight more than five seconds, more like at least an hour. Not forgetting that you'd have to create the initial image at some point which takes significantly longer.

Hmm maybe because I have a WD Raptor and I don't have 530GB of data lol. I have like 5 different images of my windows setup.

Ok ladies, take it easy with the handbags.

Nate, if you don't like having AVG and/or ZoneAlarm installed then simply uninstall them. Then format :p

Also, haven't you seen the adverts? You should always carry protection! :D

I can't coz he installed them on it and atm it's 260 miles away.

Last time I saw a AV say that it was a friends computer that was absolutely riddled with trojans etc. Maybe your gf's Dad was protecting his own hardware from your fested little netbook? just a thought

It was Zonealarm and this is a fresh install of xp on my laptop so no it's not fested. He scanned her old laptop to death complaining it's infected because she wasn't using any AV and then after 2 hours of scanning it turned out it was completely clean afterall.

Oh yeah, I forgot, cos there are no viruses (virii;)) anymore are there?

Not on my pc son ;)

I always wondered where zombie computers came from. Enjoy being used for spam, phising and DDOS.

Also:

No only a stupid person falls for spam and phishing, see FF blocks a lot of scripts and even tells you if sites are harmfull these days and maybe your one of these dumb people who open e-mails with the subject "Did you get my last message I need to speak to you urgently" from "Barclays"

You use no AV, firewall and complain at him installed Noscript? Im gonna guess your system is past infestation.

I suppose Nate has a reasonable alternative way of doing things. With an efficient re-imaging process he could indeed rebuild his OS with a few seconds of his time - though he might need to go off and eat lunch or something while the machine processes run.

For pure internet access there is a lot to be said for regularly putting on a known clean build often, rather than trying to protect a long standing build with firewalls AVs etc.

We lemmings should never laugh at people who dare to do things differently. These are the free thinking guys 'n' gals who change and shape our world :)

What who does that? I use a ghosted image and it takes what 5 seconds and I have all my stuff installed. My friend also does this a lot and wow I didn't know he was an a*** too.

One that's better than a 500GB 7200.11 and itsn't a Maxtor. Who said I used Norton Ghost and what does it matter if I paid for something? Are you the police?

Ghosting in image is using Norton ghost to make an image of your computer...

When it was purchased the 7200.11 was the best 500gb drive you could buy, and the Maxtor is 3 years old :)

And it matters a lot if you paid for something, and I do actually live with a lawyer and my Dad is a policeman :D

From the sounds of it, your uncle was looking at the logs that show internet activity/attacks.... unless its configured properly, it will show Lots of "attacks", most are just from your ISP/sites visited to check your pc is still there....

However, a good anti virus will only pop a msg if it does actually find something odd... apart from the odd false positive... that fact you get no such warnings is because you have no such detection software....

What your saying is, because you have no anti virus, you don't get virrii?
Thats like saying becuase you pulled out at the last second, you can't get a girl pregnant!

Laughable :)

So Nate, how are you going to execute your 1337 virus beating skills on a netbook that is 260 miles away?

If it's your girlfriend using it not you then it's going to get a virus of some sort at some point or other.

Just be argumentative, I dont have any AV installed on my pc either, it's pointless (lol im serious) If you scan files you download/dont go on any dodgey sites/install dodgey programs theres nothing to worry about.
But at the end of the day it's personal choice, and if you feel more safe with an AV then fair enough, but atm it's pointless in my eyes.
And formatting takes a mere 11 minutes, which i haven't done for months now.

I know what I'm running on my PC I check my processes and services and I know if something is up. I tend to get more viruses using an AV and they slow you down.

Well, that's because they're detecting the viruses you can not see for yourself? Your logic is pretty flawed in this one, sorry mate.
