So whats wrong with this memory?

There's nothing wrong with it.

The price appears to have been reduced from £119.99 to £77.99.

Perhaps Patriot RAM hasn't proved as populer as OcUK were hoping.

One thing to be aware of is that with the tall heatsinks there may be issues fitting the RAM if you have a large CPU cooler.

And remember that not all versions of Windows support 32GB of RAM.

You need 64 bit, obviously, but Windows 7 Home Premium only supports 16GB.

64 bit Windows 7 Professional, Enterprise and Ultimate support up to 192GB.

Ok,

Its just a bargin then.

I didn't know about the 16GB limit, I am still on Vista Home Basic which only supports 8GB ( I have 6GB) was going to buy Windows 7 at the same time (mainly for SSD Trim support). I guess I will have to budget for Windows 7 Pro.

This is dual channel stuff not quad!!! I presume your looking for quad at 32mb.

I buying an new Ivy CPU plus a motherboard, thats Dual isn't it???

Just get W7 HP 64 bit unless you really need 32gb of RAM.

Regards.

C.

Well I don't really need 32GB, but I do like filling slots.

I can kind of justify getting Pro if I tell myself, I will use it for work (even though I know I will never join it to the domain).

Ivy Bridge uses dual channel, you can still buy / use quad channel memory on this board as its the board not the memory which determines the how the memory runs.

Even if he was two dual channel kits achieves the same result.

He could also buy a "quad channel" kit and it would run fine in dual channel with Ivy Bridge.

Same result in theory. In practice not always stable. Quad channel kit is advisable.

I seem to recall quite a few people on the forum using using two dual channel kits for quad channel without issue.

Perhaps it's only those who like to push their RAM who have issues.

And not all quad channel kits are even that.

They're simply two dual channel kits sold together with a quad channel label.
