So, assuming I decide I need an LCD.

Which is the best 22" LCD and why? Budget lets say circa £200 +/- £40.

It will be my primary display and used for Gaming and Windows usage. My secondary display will remain my Iiyama Prolite E438-S. Whilst they are beside each other they are seperated by a 20cm wide desk support/CD storage pillar thingy which is built into the desk so a slight variation in physical size is not the issue it would be if they were side by side.

Currently thinking Iiyama ProLite E2201W-B for no reason other than I've previously had all Iiyama and been very satisfied. The other option is the Samsung SyncMaster 226BW. I've also installed a Samsung Pebble 20" for a friend and it was impressive but she doesn't game so I've no idea how it handles that. They do a 22", which looks nice.

Whats the difference between the SyncMaster and the Pebble? Which is best and why?

Now - what is handy is dual inputs - both VGA and DVI. My Prolite E438-S has this and it allows me to plug in both my PC and my Xbox 360 and swap between them simply be changing between analog and digital in the menu. Do all modern TFT's do this?

And lastly, can someone explain scaling to me? What I love about my poor old CRT its ability to run any resolution I want. I fear that games like Crysis @ 1650x1050 or whatever the res is might be a tad much. Can I drop the resolution?

Thanks..

Reading so far, especially on behardware, reckons that for a gamer moving from an CRT, the Iiyama is the best panel.

Do we agree?

Anyone got any actual RL pics of the Iiyama? Looks interesting, I know their CRT's were about as good as it gets so probably a good choice for the gamer!

You'll probably be disappointed with the current scaling capabilities of LCD panels.

Also I've just read your other post and you were unhappy with browsing on a widescreen - why?

My natural reaction was to maximise IE windows, when I then found them to be far too.... wide to read nicely.

I get what you mean...web pages are designed for scrolling downwards normally, widescreen feels distorted and harder on the eyes.

Widescreen is just one of those things you move onto and you never go back, seriously its the way all motitors are now so its inevitable you will have to move at some point. They are great. I would never ever go back to a CRT and never back to a 4:3 ratio screen either. Once you have used a widescreen for a while it just feels so much better to use, personally i never max out browser windows anyway so cant comment, i dont know anyone that does that either really.

Yep

Its a guarenteed S-panel with overdrives as good as any on the market. Its the obvious choice right now, its only downfall is the rather basic styling compared to the samsung's but if you like that your onto a winner.

the old rev cibox's like mine are actually the same screens just rebadged.

Picked up the HP2207H for £199, stunned to be honest. Its fantastic. Screen rotates, its got a gloss finish, 3000:1 contrast ratio, 2 built in USB ports and a true HDMI input.

another HP w2207h monitor user here, highly impressed, MUCH better than the highly rated Samsung Pebble (IMO), glossy black screen gives excellent blacks, contrast is great, colours are vibrant, 5ms refresh rate is decent enough - no ghosting. I was all but sold on the 'pebble' until i compared the w2207 and the pebble side by side. I also paid £199 for it too.
