So you haven't been temped yet ?, neither have I, I was going to get a GTX280 on day one but what with the performance looking like it didn't really match the price tag and ATI hot on it's heals I thought I would check out those out instead, it appears the 4850/70 are both stunning cards for the money but I've still not upgraded, why ?, the 'x2' of course, with the card only being a month away and my current motherboard being too old for crossfire I feel the wait could pay off, I'm really not in the mood to upgrade my mobo with Nehalem / X58 just around the corner.

So anyway whats your story ?, maybe your happy for your old card ?, maybe your waiting for the 'x2' also ?

Thinking about the 4870, but put off by price gouging due to poor availability, and the fact that I am not sure about getting yet another card with 512MB memory.

That, and I really shouldn't be spending more money.

gonna wait till next pay day before i make any decision but i am leaning towards a 4870 at the moment. Would be my first ATI card in a while, plus i would have to get vista as i don't yet have it and would like to try out DX10.

Nope not tempted in the slightest.

My X1950XTX seems todo well enough for playing ET:QW and my MBP doesn't need another replacement GPU.

The only two games I'm looking forward to (first time in years) are:
* Spore - well it's not a massive GPU hog!
* Diablo III - by the time this comes out the next gen of cards will be arriving.. if I'm interested..

House move takes priority.. closely followed by an espresso machine..

1. Im skint...
2. Even my dated card is handling all my games to a pleasing level right now.

When my system struggles to put a good looking game on my 22" monitor ill upgrade

Hello there :)

Same as you lowrider, gonna sit back and watch the ATI and Nvidia boys fight it out over which is the best cards :p then put that into a Nehalem / X58 motherboard and shed a little tear as my encodes come flying outta my pc :D

I can't really justify spending tp upgrade my 8800GTX when I hardly play any games..

Occasional TF2 or DOD:Source.

When something comes along and I can't play it at a decent frame rate then i'll think about it. Either that or i'll do a full system upgrade a little after Christmas.

;) I'm currently in the danger area of "wanting a new toy to play with"

Stupid thing is I'm more than happy with my 8800GTX and I don't even need to replace it for the games I play and I'm still on XP / DX9 anyway

But for some crazy reason I'm drawn to the 4870, am looking out for the 1Gb version and cant wait for the 4870X2...................But why lol

Anyone else the same ? I've resisted so far but itching to play with a new toy lol

I'm seeing my 320MB 8800 GTS doesn't cut it for 1680x1050 on a few games such as Supreme Commander and C&C3 on max settings. To many explosions and textures making the 320MB RAM a real bottleneck for me.

So I'm waiting for July 18 price cuts to come along and most likely looking at the ati 4850 .... only play mostly CS: Source & TF2 but Fallout 3 is gona kill my current graphics card.

Well my system is almost complete just needed ram and a new vid card i was all set to buy a xfx 260 xxx then ATI upsets the apple cart so im stuck now do i wait for the 1 gb version and over clocked version of the 4870 or wait and see id nvidia drops it prices.

I have a 2 point plan.

1. Wait for Nehalem
2. Build new PC's

I'll buy whatever is the best performance/value at that point, I'm guessing a 4870x2 with maybe another 4870 if CrossfireX is scaling well with 3 cards by then.

There's not much point in me upgrading my 7900GTO for one of the new ones, as my CPU will be a major bottleneck. To make proper use of the card I'd need to ether spend an inordinate amount on a S939 dual core Athlon, or upgrade my motherboard and RAM as well.

So I'm waiting until I can afford to just buy a new system - then I can keep my existing machine as a spare / test rig.

Im still happy with the "old" 8800 gt. Will buy new when my current rig needs an update.

Haha shame on you guys! :D

This forum is no place for logical explanations/justifications of a graphics card purchase! :p

Woman have their shoes and handbags, men have their bleeding edge GPU's and manly heatsinks! :o

It's also know as Retail Therapy or being hopeless addicted to upgrading!

I have owned the 8800GT since October 2007 and it still rocks but the new Radeons appear to be doing the business in 1920x1200 res with lots of AA etc so why not enjoy?

Also the price of used 8800GT's are falling everyday so the quicker I sell up the cheaper my GPU upgrade will be!

Still probably gonna cost me the best part of £100 though, not to bad but will be gutted if the GDDR5 cards get a massive price slash and the 1GB versions cost the same as the 512Mb versions today . . .
