I thought it may be a good plan to get an idea of who managed to get one of of promo boards into one thread, and then maybe we can keep track of what sort of overclocks everyone is getting for people who missed out this time.

I manged to get the GD65 after waking up at 11 thinking, oh there's plenty of time until 2 o clock. Wanted the GD 80 but didn't want to risk taking the chance of missing out on both.

Lock/delete if you don't think its necessary but I think it will be interesting.

Arggg, thats hacked me off now, whats the point in saying a time then not sticking too it?

Dude, they're a business not your best mate, only bit tech specified a time not OcUK.

People were waiting for the boards with money, other reatilers listed them up at 10am so it's only right OcUK followed suit

EDIT, they are working on getting more stock though.

I've seen the GD65 still available at other places, but don't want to take a punt on it to be honest. If I see a GD80 knocking around I'll be ordering though!

I think I've got a GD80 , got email conf and order status is 'in warehouse queue'. Not sure whether I should ring up and check I definitely got one though as I can't believe my luck if I did!!

p55 and corei5 is complete and utter failure imo

it's not even that much cheaper than corei7 these manu's must think were all stupid I would have gone for a promo board if the cpu's were at sensible prices.

Ignoring the bargain deals:

i5 750 Retail
Giga P55 UD3
4GB Gskill Ripjaw 1600MHz CAS8

= £334 delivered.

i7 920 Retail
Giga X58 UD3R
Patriot Viper 6GB 1600MHz CAS8

= £444 delivered

So for ~33% more money, you gain 2GB more mem, Hyperthreading, and Triple channel memory.

Of which (if you are a gamer) only the 2GB is of slightly some use (most games still being perfectly fine with 4GB).

Looking at reviews and benchies the i5 750 rig would match, or even beat the 920 rig in the majority of games.

Is it really worth that extra £110 to go i7? You could buy a 2nd 4890 or a 2nd GTX260 with the money you save...

The only real reason to spend the extra on i7 is for if you are a hardcore user who uses applications that really benefit from Hyperthreading and the extra bandwidth Triple channel provides.

Otherwise i5 is more than enough for anyone.

If you got the promo board then it is a fair bit cheaper. Around £130, which if you're just into games is a good chunk towards a new graphics card.

well how long has corei7 been out now ? I expect the bottom end i7 chip to be around £150 by now not the budget corei5 lol

yes it works IF you got a discounted msi board but only just lets face it.

I only mean price wise that it's a bit of a failure btw not talking about performance, it is after all supposed to be a budget route ?

and theres not much point quoting ocuk prices (no offence) because maybe that stuff is cheaper elsewhere ? and the difference is less than £100 ?
