So, who has a car on finance/PCP/PHP/PHC/whatever!

Over 4.5k to drive around in a 1.6 DS3 for 2 years?

Sounds like reasonably good value actually when you consider normal depreciation and maintenance on many other cars (and he can change it after two years).

Right, well after a couple nights of digging around and emailing a few sites I've managed to get:

DS3 DStyle Plus Airdream eHDI 1.6
£190 a month (incl maintenance at £28 a month)
10,000 miles per year (plenty)
Sports Red / Black Roof
Deposit of £1000
24 month term.

The only problem is it's on PCH. My brother has told me to go away from looking at PCH's and look at PCP's. I'm not actually looking to purchase it at the end anyway... Does anyone know of any reasons why I should steer away from PCH's?

Why pay £28 for maintenance? Thats £672 over 2 years, just what do you think you'll need to spend on it in 2 years that will make that worthwhile?

And if you do low miles why a small diesel? The petrol will be smoother and quieter.

Does it not cover tyres then?

Directly from the quote:

"Maintenance:
We’ll cover full servicing, MOT, tyre replacement and any mechanical repairs needed."

Also in reply to Fox: not really bothered about how quiet it is. Just wanting the high MPG! :)

Full servicing maybe, although it isn't going to need much in the way of servicing in the first 2 years. MOT is definitely not required, you're not going to burn through a set of tyres in 2 years at 10kpa and any mechanical repairs will be covered by a warranty.

£672 for one or two services is extremely steep.

Its a brand new car, service is what £200/year max on this thing, it doesnt need an MOT in the first 3 years. Ive not had to replace a tyre on my car in the last 2.5years and 28k miles despite two punctures. And anything mechanical should be covered under the warranty surely.

So £430 for servicing and 2x puncture repairs VS £672 for maintenance???

Doesnt make sense as people keep pointing out and will negate the money your saving on petrol with your dull and tractor sounding engine :).

Hawker

edit: beaten :(

Fair enough, so I could quite easily just take the maintenance package off? I'm just worried as this is the first time I have ever purchased a brand new car, you always hear good/bads stories - so just wanting to cover myself as much as possible.

I am in no way saying I understand 100% everything, this is why I've come to a forums, as I've said before to get some more information from people who have already done it or considering doing it and getting some help from them.

Indeed, maintenance just makes no sense whatsoever on this car. I don't think the deal is particularly bad now (without maintenance) - if you want one of these then you aren't going to get it much cheaper over 2 years (new at least). Diesel or petrol is your call I guess but I can tell you right now you won't get anywhere near 65mpg - that's a dreamland figure.

more likely 40-43mpg urban 50-55 extra urban when driven in a normal fashion in the diesel and about 10mpg less in either situation with the petrol 1.6 na - will that really make a difference? Especially with what is a stupidly low fuel bill already.

That's excellent and exactly what I'm in the car forum for! I suppose so, my brother has had his Diesel DS3 for 2 years and not had problems with the engines and seems quite happy with the MPG, so I guess that's why I keep favouring towards the Diesel model.

Just wondering about whether it's about PCP/PCH now. I've heard the Citroen alloys which come on the 'Plus' edition corrode quite easily...

On that kind of mileage, won't it be costing you MORE to get a diesel than a petrol? I imagine the diesel is a bit more expensive, slightly more expensive to service and costs an extra £4-5 a tank to fill up.

I'll do some workings tonight.

As I said, it's mostly just down to the fact my brother has had his for 2 years, but he does do a significant amount more of mileage than I do.

You don't really need to do any difficult workings tbh - It will hinge on which car is cheapest to finance overall - be it PCH or PCP, it really doesn't matter which you take if you plan to just hand it back anyway.

If you really dont mind which engine you take and (as i suspect) the diesel is the cheaper to lease & insure then by all means go for it

Fair enough. Think I'm just going to go for it without servicing. My brother with his DS3 over the past 2 years and doing 30k miles hasn't had to have much done in regards to servicing/tyres changing etc.

Just asked at work and we get good rates from an external company to repair punctures so that's even better news. Hopefully be able to get a DSport with the savings from the Maintenance then!

Thanks for all your help guys.
