Was bored so I thought I'd start a thread. I'm just waiting for a bunch of mates to come over about 10pm so we can all stop up and have a game of poker. Is it sad that I am more excited about a game of poker than going out up town? To be quite honest I find stopping up until the late hours losing money to mates/taking money off mates better than going up town... now I am getting old :(

It will be £25 buy-in tonight and the way I see it thats cheaper than a night out and you could walk away with £150 at the end of it... Who else enjoys a game?

I love playing poker but unfortunately I'm not too good at it, my mates usually end up with my money at the end of the night.

I'm especially rubbish at heads up play, I just can't seem to get the hang of it.

I play two types of poker, the online one and the not online one. Online you play the cards in front of you. You play odds and you play to win money. With mates I am entering the game expecting to lose the money. We have a good laugh, have a few drinks and one of us walks away better off, result!

I'm really interested in playing poker after watching Las Vegas tv series for all 5 seasons (sad I know) but not many people I know want to play it or lose money.

Think I'm more interested in either Baccarat or Texas Hold 'em for my card gaming pleasure.

Best thing to do we found was play small to begin and get to understand the game. I always play with the same group for some years now, I'd say we're all good novices. So long as neither of you mind giving your money to a mate it's a good laugh.

Play online mostly, which is for practice/winning, have the odd face to face game with mates, which is more for a sociable occassion or a nice evening rather than to win money.

hey!!! you read my mind..

just come back from a mini poker session with a few mates..

i got knocked out first rnd :( - at least i volunteered to deal the rest of the game before getting asked/told :D

edit: btw, we played for just £5 each.. more of a social thing rather than monies, yet without money poker is NOT poker..

Basis of heads up play is be agressive. Get a hand and make the most money you can out of it.

Be creative, don't for example when you have Aces, raise the standard 3/4x the BB, mix it up

Well I didn't win but a couple of the guys bought back in meaning one lad walked away with over £200 so he was a happy bunny. I daren't face the living room now though, it's trashed! Now do I stay in bed and let the missus clean up when she comes home? lol

Generally we give a free ride to third, double the buy-in to 2nd and the winner takes the rest :)

Usually we have seven playing so that's £35 in prizes and we do £20, £10 and £5 so similar to yours.

Someone didn't come round though last night so we scrapped money back for 3rd and did £20 and £10 :)

had a good one at DTD recently

£75 buy in and about 120-130 players

after about 8-9 hours I am down to final table but absolutely slaughtered, got a 10 min penalty for knocking my chips all over table for 2nd time, not great but managed 3rd for £1207

have played there 3 times with over 120 players each time and have come 3rd , 6th and 30th, the 30th being the only time I was sober :p

I miss the days I used to spend playing obsessive amounts of online poker.

Got fed up though, found it too stressful, even if it was ultimately profitable.

I've onyl ever played poker at casino once, played a cash game. Sat down with £50, got my way up to £100 then bailed lol, im a chicken!
