Just switched providers and have been told it can be between 7 - 10 days till it is ready.

Why does it take so long to change? Is it not a matter of pressing a couple of buttons to activate my account? My line is obviously already adsl enabled etc etc. No need to an engineer to be called out anyway.

My current supplier is now on a pre-pay system so the quicker I change over the better!

It's not abnormal for a migration to happen more quickly. The winning ISP should really have said it can be up to 7-10 days.
Migrations aren't exclusively within a single LLUer (i.e. between ISPs who use BT Wholesale) either; it's perfectly possible some manual work at the exchange could be required.
