So. Why the heck are so many consoles going wrong this gen?

No, I am not aiming this at anyconsole really. I just heard from another topic that Wii's are having firmware issues (plus the remote straps, though thats probablly more the users fault).

THe 360's problems are obvious (but slowing getting fixed, so it seems?), and now sony cant even make PS3's at a decent rate, and the HD problems, plus it seems the controller can be an issue.

Is it simply that because consoles are more complex, there are more failure points?

Because no other consoles in the past have ever had problems.

Well, aside from your sarcastic comment, you are partly right. Consoles have had problems, but not to this extent it seems. The PS1 had massive laser problems, but all the other companies didnt seem to have these same problems. at least to this extent.

Could be loads of things, for example one of the machines flashing the firmware chips wasn't working properly.

Whats actually wrong with the Wii though, does it not work at all or just unstable?

A quick google says this:

....and it doesn't look like the Wii is going to escape unscathed either. Reports have been coming in on the official Nintendo forums that after the initial firmware/software update that is downloaded during your first attempt to use WiiConnect24, some users are experiencing a "110213" error code, which bars them from using WiiConnect24 completely. Some people are conjecturing that the update is frying a necessary component to connect to the service, possibly being caused by corrupt downloads due to the incredible demand on the update servers currently. Whatever the cause, Nintendo phone support is apparently calling this a "fatal error," and replacing the units for free, including pre-paid shipping labels to make the process as smooth as can be -- of course, "smooth as can be" is little solace to launch day junkies who are halfway through Zelda already and will have to start over on a fresh box."

I dont wanna copy and paste the link case it isnt allowed. A google will come up with TONS of cases though.
