So... why would you buy the full version of CS4?

I ask, because I purchased the upgrade to CS4 Design Premium and it installed without issue and has been running fine and not once did it ask me for my CS3 serial number...

So why would anyone spend >2k when my 600 odd quid version works perfic?

well, not lucky as i do indeed own CS3 so am perfectly entitled - i'd kindof understand if CS3 was even on this machine as then it would find it and do the necessary checks itself but there is no other adobe stuff on this mac...

strange...

Very strange, when I set up my ssd's recently I did a clean install and cs4 just asked me for the code of my cs3 and then installed, sure you didn't do something similar?

Must be 30-day trial, surely.

It always throws a wobbly when I install it on my machine until I placate it with licensing information.

nope, absolutely 100% - i put my new CS4 serial in and got the green tick before continuing, I have even not had to find my CS3 key...

Based on what people are saying, maybe there is some remnant or important preference file on my computer hinting an echo of a past CS3 install, not that all this really matters, if it works it works :)

I was quite experienced with CS3, does anyone know of any tutorials that would rather than showing me any basics again just show me the differences between 3 and 4 so I can make the most of new functionality?

Moving away slightly... but wondered if anyone knew... if I have CS3 on my PC, can I buy the upgrade version for my Mac?
