So will the 6 core AMD will outperform i7?

Sick of the BS post's on crap hardware pimping.

Photoshopped OCUK shopping baskets to lure people into buying AMD.

Its sickening.

I had wondered if that was what's been bothering you.

Was fully expecting you to get an i3 and clock it before a certain comparison thread popped up. Still, I guess most people would have taken the i7 route for the price. Must have been all the more enticing though...

i3 was nearly in my basket then that 100 quid i7 came along.

From what i have heard there may have been some tweaks made to the architecture. Could give it an extra few percent, every little helps.

You i7 will handle pretty much everything, 6 core CPU's are really only for the crunchers among us.

I reckon an Xbox 360 port or two may be running 5 or more threads (3 core cpu with hyperthreading). Having said that I don't think there's a console port the current higher clocked quads can't handle so it will be one of those meaningless boosts where you go from 130fps to 150fps or something.

Edit: So to carity - in that situation I think 6 core will give a boost over 4 core AMD or possibly i5. i7 with hyperthreading should handle it nicely anyway.

Yeah you go from like 150FPS to 200. Very noticeable :/

lol, noticeable or not the question was answered.

Saint row 2 also uses quadcore, and so does Supreme commander with the tweak.

Im not really looking to argue whether quad core is necassary, or I7 is necassary.

I do know if i was buying, I'd be buyin I7 though, but thats because I'd buy the best of the current climate when upgrading. No point buying subpar when you're willing to spend the money. But if i could wait, I'd probably wait and watch the AMD 6 cores, if they are better performers, I'd buy one of those.

Found this AMD slide over at xtreme systems forum,

No it won't be. It'll be basically a 6 core Phenom II.
The i7 killer will be Bulldozer, Thuban is not bulldozer.

They claimed Phenom II would be a core 2 quad killer.. It wasnt.... Bulldozer "MAY" be an i7 killer... or it may not be... but by the time it comes out intel is already working on both the 32nm die shrink of i7, and the next architecture update after that as well, so unless bulldozer comes out soon, it wont be competing against i7 anyway.
