So I was doing some stuff with my newly built Windows 8.1 system last night. Explorer (desktop) declared it had a problem, so Windows said it was closing down and reporting the problem etc etc...

On reboot my BIOS came up. I CTRL-ALT-DELELTED and the same again. It was then I realised my C drive (SSD) was not even listed as a bootable device in the BIOS?

Nearly in tears, I shut down, turned the power off too, and rebooted, and all was fine!

Can someone put my mind at rest that somehow this is a normal possible behaviour that Windows/the BIOS can result in with a Windows controlled crash?

yeah it can cause ssd/hdd detection problems if it crashes badly

its usually cured with one or two restarts

Phew! So it's a known "issue" then and not a sign that my system is about to die!

I'll swear Windows 7 seems more stable than Windows 8?

ps: I've imaged that C drive now!

Windows 8 is as stable as 7, you just got unlucky.
Comments like that will start a war around here! :p

What was you doing when the crash happened?
SSD might have struggled loading something in explorer and gave up.

I was actually messing about trying to get a "show desktop" icon in my quick launch tray :)

Its a crucial MX100...

In case you didn't know, the bottom right of the screen does this.

Yes... And it's a rubbish place for it when for 10+yrs it's basically been with every other control you have, bottom left.

And that's where I have it now...
