As title really! Last Thursday was using my PC at lunch to check my emails and what not, nothing out of the usual then when I got home after work and fired it up again, nothing!

The system runs the POST but once thats finished I simply get a black screen with a flashing white cursor. I've checked the BIOS and it picking up all the hard drives including the one with my Windows installation on.

I have a 6 week old image so I'm going to try and restore it later but am currently in the process of downloading a Ubunto DVD so that I can try and rescue anything not in the last image.

Any idea what may have caused this or how I can avoid it again?

PC was running Windows 7 Pro x64 with MSE fully up to date and a full scan had been done a few days earlier finding nothing.

Cheers

Well played sir! :D

Strange one that as nothing new had been added from when it previously worked.

Guess I better go through a process of elimination to see what it was.

Thanks for you help.

Also, instead of ubuntu, I reccomend 'Slax' for doing this, it loads super quickly and has networking / usb support etc
