Basically i've been getting this problem during games/blu-rays/dvds generally any task where the ps3 will be on for long periods of time. My controllers will without warning disconnect from the PS3 and refuse to reconnect. At this point i turn it off by holding the power button, however the PS3 won't fully switch itself off so i have to turn it off at the back.

This can occur every few months or sometimes (like todays case) a couple of times a day.

It seems like this would be a firmware/software fault to me, but i've never heard of people complaining of it so i'm wondering if it is indeed a hardware fault in my particular PS3.

Anyone else getting these problems?

Anything is possible, especially with so many things going on. I'd recommend phoning Sony and seeing what they have to say about it.

and let us know what they say, in case it happens to one of us ;)

They'll say no problems a new one will be on your doorstep tomorrow like they did for me last week :D

It wasn't even my PS3 at fault, but it was still nice to get a brand new console.

I was under the impression it was a refurbished console? This is whats putting me off, this error is a rather minor (annoying but still minor), so if i get it replaced with a console that previously had a more important component die would it be more likely to break outside of warranty than my current store-bought PS3.

Well my replacement was a brand new 60GB, and if it breaks I'll get it replaced again, no problems :)

I thought they would be refurbs also, but it isn't unless they replaced everything with new?

TBH Sony's service is so good I couldn't really what happens to the console as I know they'll just replace it no questions asked.

So you phoned up on the off chance of getting a new console? Or was there a problem that ended up not being the PS3's fault?

I phoned up as my DVD playback was taking a while to load, which they told me to format my HDD which didn't make any difference. So they replaced my console only to find that didn't make any difference so I tried it on a different tv which solved the problem, so it looks like I have an issue with my HDMI input on my tv :-/

If that makes sense???

Phoned on the Monday, and recieved my replacement midday on the Tuesday :)

Now I need to get my TV repaired but tbh it's a minor annoyance as usually it takes no more than a 30 seconds to load..

im getting strange problems aswell, where i hangs on start up meaning the only way to switch it off is via the back, and it also freezes during game play :(.

anyone else had that ?

and how do go about our game saves and stuff when its swapped ?

I just saved all my game saves, photos, music etc to a memory card.

It's a refurbed console in a new shell. You don't get new 60gb's any more.

You're not alone. I have exactly this same issue with my PS3 and it happens completely randomly. I've been thinking about contacting Sony, but not got around to it yet. A number of other people online have had the problem (though it seems rare) but I've never seen a fix for it.

No you don't, but all I can tell you is when I had my previous one replaced this time last year the new one I recieved just came with no packaging etc, where as this one I recieved had plastic film over it and was in a bag type of thing with a sticker indicating it as new.

Either way it's in as new condition and works fine :)

My point is if anyone is having issues, why not just get a replacement from Sony. It's litterly a 2 minute phone call, and a 1-2 day wait.

Because of my aforementioned worries of sending away a PS3 with a minor fault and receiving one that previously had a complete failure and could possibly suffer the same problem again in the future.

I will phone sony on monday, but i'll still be worrying about this.

Fair point, but tbf the main failures have been the BD drive, so if you do recieve a Refurb then chances are it has a new drive... and outer casing I assume?

Either way if it fails at some point in the future, get it replaced. This is now my 3rd PS3 and if this one fails I'll be getting it exchanged simple. It's not ideal but as I said it hasn't caused me any hassle or being without a console so I don't care if it breaks.

Hell next time it needs cleaning I might just get it replaced to save me dusting it :D (Joke)
