I cant see the actual point in web and walk as it only allows you to browse the sites that are on the T-mobile phones.

Your not allowed to use it as a modem with a laptop either. So really its no different from what 3 are offering for free?

Or have a i completely mis understood?

Unless im reading it wrong about the modem part? But it does cleary say browsing from the handset

Last thing, what handset did you get? The D600 looks the best one available for free? this is the one my gf got. Is there any good stuff i can put on it, games etc?

EDIT the MDA pro looks the best for internet browsing on the move for cheap, then i spose i could use a old nokia for going clubbing etc

Nope. You can browse any website, but you have to do it on the phone, not using the phone as a modem for a computer.
 
There has been a lot of talk about this new web 'n' walk in some other UK based forums (mobile phone ones) and basically from what I've read I'm pretty sure that T-mobile can't really tell if you are using your laptop through your phone. But what will happen if you do is that you will put your connection under heavy load in a similar way to streaming video or music (this is because if your on a laptop your likely to be surfing more pages more quickly) and this will flag up on their system that your abusing the connection.

Also there are rumours that t-mobile are going to bring out a web 'n' walk package that will cost £10 instead of £7.50 and it will allow you to use a laptop connected to it. This £10 package will have a 2GB cap though (the £7.50 package has no cap at all, it used to be 40mb but they scrapped that since the start of april).

wolseley is right too, you can access any site you want, it's not one of those walled garden things.
 
I think web & walk is brilliant, I have been browsing forums, downloading audio clips for ringtones and notifications, looking stuff up, using msn, sending and receiving email... I've used load of MB so far (a couple of weeks), with no charge. Lovely :)

WEll if they cant tell that your using a laptop then i may as well look at getting a smaller mobile phone(3g) to link up with the lappy as the mda pro is quite large. Although would be a great nerd gadget
 
The only way T-Mobile know if you are using the phone as a modem is like you say the extra load on the bandwidth. Theyhave a system put in place that monitors usage on all Web 'N' Walk SIM's and when it see usage exceeding what is deemed acceptable on a phone it automatically throttles the bandwidth on that SIm card.

Once your Bandwidth has been throttled you won't expect to get a connection rate of any faster than CSD speeds(9.6Kb/sec)

It seems to be a bit unbelivable at first but trust me I have tested this and it does work very well. It only took 45 mins before my speeds dropped to a pint that it was pointless using the device as a modem.

The MDA Pro is the best device to use the Web 'N' Walk feature with or possibly the MDA Vario and with the iminant release of the UK apporved blackberry connect software it will make these devices very powerful.

So if iwas tp get the N70 rather than the mda pro i could use it as a modem with my laptop just for browsing and they wouldnt mind? or wouldnt know?
 
All i want is a phone that can get on the web, obviously if i can use a laptop instead of the phone for straight browsing then all the better
 
No you can't use any device as a modem. The moment you use a device as a modem you will see your connection speeds being throttled.

The best device to get is one that is going to give you the best mobile browsing experience. I would reccomend the MDA Pro or MDA Vario.

So why are there people saying that you can?hmmmmmmmmmmm and how could they know if you are just browsing and not d/l?

Thanks anyway, i think i will get the pro to be on the safe side and a smallphone for nights out

And where do yo getthe t mobile vario from now? even t mobile havnt got it?

Is the mda pro about to be super ceded? as some places offer it as clearance. Is it a capable phone/pda?
