So you're building a time machine......

In my eyes it has to do the following:

- Reach 88mph.....
- Run on just above any fuel known to man
- Be reliable, good offroad and easy to fix when in the 1800's
- Have space to store stuff
- Not stand out soo much that it causes a disturbance in the space-time continuum

In short i'm going to take some sort of Landrover Defender.

The delorean ran on plutonium so petrol wasn't an issue. i think it then ran on recycled garbage after the first film too?

Failboat.

No, the time circuits (aka flux capacitor) ran using plutonium rods in the first film (and by Mr. Fusion in the 2nd and 3rd), but the internal combustion engine needed to achieve 88MPH are powered by ordinary regular gasoline, it always has.

:)

Nice.

 :D

That's why marty had such and issue in the 3rd, they blew the fuelpump trying to run the car on whisky after an indian put an arrow through the fueltank IIRC.

Probably go with this:-

That's going to be some push!

Still doesn't explain why they never bothered to go down the abandoned mine that 1885 "Doc" put the original time machine in and syphon off the existing fuel. Wouldn't have caused a problem for Marty in 1955 as the fuel would have been stale by then anyway!

Initially I'd use whatever was lying around, then I'd head into the future and reshell it into something cool which hasn't been invented yet.

Why not put it in a small plane? You could get to 88mph without having to worry about the traffic or if there will even be a road in the same place. :)

He didn't know about the car in the shaft until the 3rd movie.

The DeLorean, with the hover conversion and the Mr Fusion. Swap the combustion engine for an electric motor and wire up the Mr Fusion to charge the batteries.

No problems with there being no roads in the past.
No problems with there being no petrol in the past.
