I'm a bit thrown by this - the only *k series processors I can find for 2011 are the 3930K and 3970X. They both seem to be six core chips.

Is there a four core one in the range? Seems strange that it's missing.

The only one is the 3820 which is multiplier locked so you have to alter the BCLK straps to get it to go faster.

Surreal. I don't suppose there's a credible eta on an eight core version?

edit: Many, many eight core Xeons. Quad core Xeons too. Boo Intel :(

Thanks for the link. Anand seem pretty sure that SB-E will let you set a bsck of 125 on the 3820, much as you said. That doesn't sound too bad to me - +25% takes it comfortably over 4ghz anyway. Pushing bsck up presumably means running the ram faster too?

I own a i7 3820 myself currently got it at 4.6ghz on 1.25 strap rams rated at 1600mhz but it runs at 1666mhz no problem.

It Turbo boosts on all the boards I have used one with. Predominantly ASUS to 4.3ghz or 43 Ratio on all cores.

If you want more the 125 strap works well to give you 4.75ghz which again most of mine have done easy.

Dont worry ratio clocking and BLK helps get more out of a lot of these SB-E chips.

Good news all round then. The 3820 is clearly the overclocking friendly quad core cpu I was hoping for. And at £250 - awesome. Cheers all
