My gf uses a packard bell pc(i know!) which has served her well for what she wants but unfortunately the cpu has gone up the spout. I bought a pentium 4 2.8 celeron D from fleabay to tide her over but it runs to hot for my likeing. There was a 2.8 HT cpu in there i think.

Soooooooo

Obviously im looking to get a second cpu now that doesnt give out loads of heat.

So should i be getting a 2.8 ghz 533mhz prescott or a 2.8 ghz 800mhz or a 2.8 ghz 800 mhz HT enabled.

Basically out of the 478 cpus which one should i be looking for?

Or is there any others ive missed out........... I dont mind going down to a 2.6 or a 2.4 if its really going to help.

I might just be getting paranoid as its run for years with the generic h/s/f as is, and obviously i dont want to spend loads of money on it...

Cheers Guys

thanks guys..it had a 2.8 800fsb HT one in originally so i guess a 2.6 one would be ideal...Were they made???

ill probably have to pick one up from the second hand high street store so what do i need just the part numbers? which would be..........??

Well the pc is still merrily chugging away

Im using a 2.8 533 i got cheap off the forums. I dont have any temp monitoring software installed though as i dont want to start getting worried :D

I have how ever just secured a 3ghz HT Northwood.Cost £15 so i havnt really lost a lot in a cheap upgrade.(it would be good if i could find a way to use this so i could encode a few vids overnight when i do stay there)

My main worry now is the heat, can anyone recommend any decent coolers that are still available and dont take up a load of space on the motherboard as its quite cramped around the cpu area, if the fitting lifts the h/s/f above the caps on the board then that would be fine, but in my wisdom i failed to remember that in most cases the h/s/f is gonna cost me more than the cpu so it might of just been a red herring!"

Cheers

So can anyone recommend a h/s/f?

i was looking at these on fleabay
1. 170137102831
2. 160143132282

Or the Akasa AK-687 or the 675?
