Socket 478

Its my mates computer. He has a socket 478 2.8 @ 3.5, Sapphire 9800XT and 1 gig of OZ PC 4200.
His gpu has given up and so needs a new card. I was thinking of the gainwood gs+. Its just that it seems so much money £250 when you could get the HIS X1900XT for £230, if he had pci extreame.
The computer still does everything he wants it to. Im worried also that if he buys the new gpu something else might go wrong as the computer is three years old?
Is he going to be able to run fear ect at high res and effects?

I can not seem to fing the Asus P4GD1 for sale anywhere and if it is going to be around a £100 it just seems like a waste of money.
He might have to bight the bullet and go Conroe.
It is so difficult to advise him of what to do. He could get the conroe which would be a massive jump from his old system, but it will set him back about £1,200.
Or he could get the Gainwood GS+ which is a rubbish card for its price of £250, plus something else could go wrong with other parts of the system. How different is the GS+ to say the HIS X1900XT say on average FPS?
