Behind you... Naked!
Ok, saw a 3700 on the MM yesterday.

Instantly jumped at it to upgrade my daughters Newcastle 3000

The CPU is a Mobile, but I have one annoying issue...

It runs at 800MHZ

Now, of course, being a Mobile, I assumed this would jump up to the normal 2.4Ghz when it was under some load, however, nothign I do wil get it to go above this 800MHZ ( 4x200 )

Ok, the Mobo is a DFI LanParty 250UT NF3 and has taken the Newcastle to ridiculous heights and so I know ist a great clocker, so I will try and force a clock out of the CPU.

I tried it at 12x200 but nothing. I tried it as 10x200 and again, nothing.

he only thing I can do, is run the CPU at stock.

Ok then, I get back into Windows and everything I run, its just at 800Mhz... SuperPI takes a few minutes to do a 1MB run, 3DMark is jittery and sluggish
( Could not be arsed to wait for a result ) and the whole thing is a complete mess and I just cannot for the life of me make it go at any hald decent speed at all.

Anyone got any clues?

This is the one and only Mobo I have for it.

The Specs are :-

DFI LanParty 250UT ( NF3 )
ClawHammer 3700 ( 2.4Ghz / 1MB Cache model )
Radeon 9800Pro
2x256MB + 1x512MB OCZ
SBLive5.1

Everythign is great with the Newcastle but po with the Clawhammer due to it being kind of locked into 800Mhz?

Thanks in advance

Ok, I have had a play and I am still doing just that right now...

New BIOS - No, I will be having a check though...

Cool n Quiet - Again, this does nothign to it, its 800Mhz and nothing else

CPU Volts - Yes, the CPU at stock is supposed to be 1.5v and the BIOS is saying that its at 0.9v so that would point a few thigns out, however, no matter what I do, it wont go at anything other than this 800Mhz.

For example, clear the BIOS to put it to defaults, look in the CPU settings and up the volts from 0.9 to 1.0 and thats bound to be a perfectly safe setting isnt it? - well now I get a blank screen and then eventually after a ferw seconds the system switches off??

EH?

on a 0.1v upper?

I mean, I dont actualyl want to overclock this, I think that 2.4 is fine. The Newcastle that its supposed to be replacing has been clocked much further but I have had it at 2.4 for about 2 years now, and this CPU I simply wanted it at stock, but of course with 1MB Cache instead of the 512K of the NewCastle, so its not much to ask, but its hard and I cannot figure out why?

Ok then BIOS update is my next call.

Ok, BIOS is already latest version - 23/06/2005

I have however, upped it anyway, just for the hell of it.

Now, I have another issue that I need to iron out... It only starts up every other time...

I switch it on, but the screen is blank...
I switch it off and then back on and its fine..
Next time I switch it on, its blank and the time after tht its ok again??? - weird.

Possibly a RAM issue as I have seen that before so I will chuck in a single 512MB stick for now and see how it goes.

No, you dont get what I am saying...

I cannot even touch any setting at all - it has to be stock or it wont boot up.

The 1.0v was with the CPU still at 800MHZ and I only said this to show thats how bad it is.

If you look further up, I did say that it should be able to do 2.4Ghz with 1.5v and so therefore, 1.5v will be a safe setting to use, but it wont go there.. It wont even go to 1.0v

It sticks at 800Mhz ( 4x200 ) even when under heavy load, I had kind of hoped that it would automatically increase speed but alas no... It has been at 800Mhz no matter what I do and no matter what I try.

Im truly pithed off and itth getting on my thitting nervth

Fascinating.

Ok, first off, here is a screenie of both RMCLOCK and CPUZ

http://www.fatrakoon.co.uk/mob800.png

Right then, so, what happened?

Well, I think somehting has happened to my CPU cos now I cant get into windows without it shutting down on me, and holding the Power Button for a few seconds no longer powers it down, so its a cable out job when it hangs, the BIOS Messages at powerup are now constantly telling me that the CPU needs re-setting in the BIOS, and luckily I can get into the BIOS easy enough. but if I do anything then it wont start up, so I just save it and then give it F1 when it moans for the second time.

Hmmmm....

I went through some of the options in RMclock and I thought Id chance 1.35v and x12 as the CPU is rated at that, but it just turned off, and thats the moment I started to have the issues.

I really really hate this CPU now.
