Old school I know, but I'm trying to get my old Athlon 64 rig up and running again.

Is the heatsink mounting system for 754/939/am2/am3 identical?

The heatsink is all I'm missing and 754 ones are few and far between so I was wondering if I could grab one from one of the newer sockets instead, they look very similar (looking at this one and comparing it with the last AM3 I saw).

The heatsink is all I'm missing and 754 ones are few and far between...

OcUK has ten different models of CPU coolers available for a socket 754 CPU, only one of which(the cheapest) is out of stock.

I was looking second hand. The CPU, mobo and RAM combo it's for are probably worth less than £10, hardly worth a shiny new heatsink.

If i remember right 754/939 had three tab's on either side for mounting the heatsink but AM2/3 only has the centre ones. 754/939 coolers can fit AM2/3 just using the centre tab's so i can't see why it would'nt work the other way around.

The bay would be a good source for older coolers.

No all are same with 754/3939 and AM2/AM2+/AM3 cos I was using Thermaltake Venus 12 that was install on 939 years ago and then keep same heatsink and put on AM2 and then now AM3 to run 1090T -- it prefect fit without any problems.. still using X6 1090T with Venus 12 cos of big and plenty of copper plus manual tuning to speed up when overclock the CPU.
