Yeah, I know where you're comming from. The wise thing would be do upgrade to 939, but I'm going to do a big upgrade after Vista is out. My Current rig is keeping me happy, just lacking CPU Powa!!. And I want to hit that magic 3GHz barrier. Can't find anyone in the UK who stocks them, best bet is an auction site, even then I saw on sell for about £80 brand new.
My Motherboard has the latest BIOS which support it. Some 3700+ I have seen at 3GHz, but not sure about them. I don't want to go Conroe 
don't ask why. Not yet, I'm a bit of an AMD Biased person. I will however consider it, and maybe go for it. Only trouble is, if I want a 4000+ I'll need to import it. 
EDIT: Out of my 3000+ I can get 2.6GHz stable. Pretty good I reckon, at 1.7core, but temps idle at around 34c and full load hit 42c.
