Hi all, looking to extend the life of a lga 775 based system (Asus P5q mobo). There's a rake of lga 771 xeons + adaptors on a well known auction site and I was wondering if anyone has any experience on overclocking these things ( currently running Q8450 @3.6 GHz).
Cheers.

yeah i've got just over 10 of them. the best value/performance is a x5450 which can be picked up for around £25, you need to get one with the E0 stepping (SLBBE) so it overclocks well. you will need to cpu the tabs out the socket and put the sticker in the correct place.

Had a 9550 running ~4.2GHz for a long time but that machine is no more, so looks like hand in the pocket time ( the wife's not going to be pleased:rolleyes:)

i got a xeon cpu for our htpc, and im please with it, runs cooler than the q6600, and is faster. its not overclocked though so cant comment on that.

they are great value, if abit oh wow thats tiny when u do the mod :)
