That's the mobo and chip in my parents' computer. It's a DELL dimension with a pentium D at 3.4ghz (speedstep is on, hence the downclock in that pic)

I was just wondering what that mobo can handle, c2d wise (if at all) I'm gonna have a dig around on the web, but thought that I'd post incase anyone here knows.

How old is the pc, as later 945 chipsets could support Core 2 duo range.
But that was most main manufacturers of motherboards, whether Dell done this not sure.

have you checked the Dell support site?
Yeah, it's pretty useless.

It was bought in August 2006 IIRC.

edit: reading a few threads on dell support forums, it would seem that it can't handle C2D. shame =(

That was around the time the Core 2 Duo was launched and I think after that the main board suppliers revised their boards to accept on the 945 chipset.

Had a quick look at the Asus range some 945 did accept or had to be Rev 2.

I got a definitive answer from the DELL forums, someone had the same mobo as me, and it couldn't take a c2d chip :(
