well its a old board so dont seem to find drivers so well on windows 7. and when i start my pc it never finds my network adapter and i have to restart pc 2 or 3 times for it to find it. it used to find it first time every time. so i bought a network adapter plugged it into my pci slot and it works fine everytime when i start pc up. although sometimes when i start pc up its screams like a conflicting noise maybe with my sound card so i have to restart.

hi, i did look on there the other day for a lan driver couldnt seem to see one.will have a better look when home from work, thanks for the help

hi there is 16 types of p5b mine is simply the p5b.windows7 32 bit ulimate.
my cd no longer works with windows7. but even when i was running xp i had problems
with the lan adapter even installing it from the motherbaords cd.
i have 3 pci slots as my graphic card covers one. leaving only 2 one for my sound card and one for the network adapter.the correct adapter for my board is a realtek. this board is quite a few years old even had to update bios to support quad core.maybe its time to upgrade to a cheap board that supports win 7 a little better. thanks for the help wayne was much appreciated.
the default onboard lan is a Realtek RTL8111B.

just installed a driver for my onboard lan. its a driver which says supports win7.but cant connect to internet shows it installed fine in my device manager.its a Realtek RTL8168B/8111B Family PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.20).just says unidentified network access. or local area connection2 doesnt have valid ip. but using my pci adapter it fires up to the internet fine.or even using my girlfriends laptop works first time aswell. so it can only be the onboard lan playing up, as it used to be fine.just started doing it one day all off a sudden, even after a fresh copy of windows was put on too.

Are you reading that from the chip on the mobo or device manager?
its on the motherboard description box .

The one here?

Yes indeed it may well be the onboard lan is bOrked but it could also be a driver issue?
i cant seem to sort the driver issue it started to even do it on windows xp even from a fresh install and using the cd that comes with the board. but always used to be fine. dont know why it would do it using the cd.

yup roger that . . . and you say the 3rd party LAN card works fine and the 3rd party audio card works fine except sometimes there is a weird noise when you boot?

yeah sometimes screams and makes a weird noise.

Yup the P5B-Vanilla . . know it well!

Well if you deem the actual problem bad enough and you can't fix it then that would seem like an option . . . bit of a drag though . . .

yeah pain in the back side.

No worries . . . not sure I would buy another board myself if I could fix whatever the problem was . . .
problem been on going for a few months just fed up with it, specially having to restart pc 3 or 4 times to make lan adapter work ( on board one ) thanks for all your help :)
