Going to replace my single core 3700+ (San Diego) with a dual core.

I'm restricted to Socket 939 as I don't want to change the rest of my system.

Would I be better going for a 64x2 or an Opteron.

For the 64x2, it would probably be a Manchester core so L2 would be 512K per core.

Which 64x2 offers the best value when overclocked - for example is it worth going for a 4600 or should I just get a cheaper 4200.

Or would I be better going for an Opteron?

Thanks for the advice.

Cheers,

Nigel

If there's little difference in price between an Opty and x2 then go for the Opty as it's got twice as much L2 cache. Any chip you get should hit 2.6-2.8Ghz pretty easily. It's a shame that you don't have 250 posts as I'm sure there's an Opty 170 that's currently for sale on the Members Market for £40.

Sure you know my answer from your other thread ;) - i'd go with the Opty. :D

That said the manc's aren't shabby chips at all!

gt

P.S: Just so you know... there is an Opty 170 up for £40 like El Jimben says! :)

Thanks for the advice.
