Does such a thing exist?

I'm looking at moving an A8N32-SLi board into an HTPC case so the Scythe Ninja has to go. Unfortunately I've chucked out the original AMD retention bracket which all the Zalman coolers that I've been looking at need. So it looks like I've got three options:

1) Get a new retention module - £8 from Hong Kong
2) Find a duff 939 board for less than that and scavenge the module
3) Find a cooler that's less than 90mm high that has it's own mounting kit.

Anyone got any suggestions other than option 1?

You can get original AMD retention brackets on the bay for a couple of quid. Arctic cooling do some low profile coolers that would suit you:-

Freezer 64 LP This is what i would use and as far as i can tell does'nt need a bracket. Cost's around £11-12.

Silencer 64 Ultra TC You can find these for around £5.50 and they come with their own retention bracket.

Usually if their coolers need a retention bracket they come with one.

I take it you mean 90cm not mm.
No, I mean 90mm. Not even my PC343B has 90cm of clearance over the CPU and I've got a small family of immigrants living in that.

The Freezer LP looks like it might work though, the other one won't cope with a 4400X2.

Which Zalmans are you looking at? I know the CNPS7000B comes with its own 939 fixings.

Ignore me. Why the hell did i say that. :o 90 cm is 3 bloody feet.:eek: some behemoth of a cooler that would be.

Well to close this one off I found a solution after a couple of revelations:

1) Measure the height properly - turns out I had nearer 140mm than 90mm of clearance which opens things up a fair bit

2) Notice that the Scythe Ninja which was already on the board actually uses a Socket 478 retention bracket when installed on Socket 939 boards.

So I ended up with a Scythe Ninja Mini which seems to be doing a perfectly adequate job given that there's very little scope for decent airflow in the case.
