No the thing is I love my rig and am perfectly happy with gaming performance. Just picked up a 3870XT the other day and already have 2gb of corsair xpert ram. The only reason I want one is for better application performance, hardly worth a full system upgrade especially with all my mods etc.

I appreciate this but I also have all my other mods and things which I love, and the effort of upgrading to a complete new system (I have limited amounts of money!) and gaming does not struggle my 4000+ is at 3.00Ghz! Its just I want to install vista and I know that the desktop environment will be pretty slow on a single core but it looks sooo nice lol but anyway looks like im sticking with the 4000+ for now might start saving for that C2D rig but i dont see the point when my only weakness is my processor!

The thing is, I have done a lot of mods, I have a custom acrylic case which I handmade, and many UV mods etc on various components so I really am limited to 939 socket, I understand that C2D is better and value for money I am not an idiot, all I am trying to say is will this massive hunt for a dual core 939 processor be worth the effort I am putting in over my current 4000+ @ 3.0ghz?? please someone must understand!

I am not sure what you are saying is correct, because if i was to go c2d now, i would be limited to very cheap components only being able to scratch together around £200 for my current components, so gaming performance would not be that far ahead of what i currently have. I'm probably going to stick with this for a while longer because theres no point in upgrading with soo much new hardware coming out daily, plus I have no problem with my system, its just bit laggy in desktop, im not a crysis fanboy so most games run perfect, and I have a small monitor. I guess I should think about forking out for an 939 dual core and overclocking to the extreme.

thanks for all the comments, because I am so attached to my rig, I am just going to buy a dual core 939 and leave it at that, I am prepared to wait for cheaper prices elsewhere I am sure they will come soon, as for ram - whoever says that 400mhz gets creamed by 800mhz ram in games is wrong, there are many other aspects like CAS latency, of which my XMS has 2-2-2-5 the quickest timings you can have :D if only i had access to members market its soo long getting these 200 odd posts!

I'd be willing to bet, though completely inexperienced and opinionated in doing so, that 4GB of DDR2 at 4-4-4-12 and a Core2 Duo would make nasty brown messings over my Athlon 4800+ X2 with 2 GB of DDR1 at tight timings!!

Off to plan that upgrade...

Roo

Won't exactly run all over it, mabye in newer titles, but older games tend to be more responsive to tighter latencies, and most of the games I play are not that new (CS:S, BF2142 etc)

well thanks for all the help, I actually managed to pick up a 3800 X2 for £25! so i am going to overclock the s*** out of it! can't wait to see the results and its a good stepping! will let you know how it goes

Well got my 3800 x2, overclocked on water to 2.8ghz nicely, managed to keep my XMS XPERT @ 2-2-2-5!! With 3870XT running crysis high @1440x900, for £25 i challenge those of you who claim i could have got a better c2d upgrade for cheaper.

I am gonna stick it out a while longer, no point in changing something I'm happy with and with hardware changing so fast and prices dropping soooooo rapid i think I will praise myself in a year or so for hanging out for the octo cores :d

a good point, im guessing my current will take me through to next year by which a q6600 would be about £50, the thing is im happy with my rig so wont upgrade until all games become like crysis lol
