Socket A upgrade help

This Current system Asus A7N8x-x is running a duron 1300 with 768mb of pc3200 and runs fine, but I've fitted a xp 2600+ cpu and now windows will not boot. I've set the fsb etc to 333mhz so I know the cpu is set up ok,it posts ok to the bios....but windows just hangs on the boot up screen.Do I need to reinstall windows or something???? help.

(this is my old board that did us't to run a 3200+ ok)But I did a clean install when I gave it my mate with the duron fitted)Makes me think it's a windows problem.

If all you did was put a new cpu in it should boot fine, windows would detect a new cpu thats all. Did you change order or connect the drives differently ?

Changed nothing with the drives, but should I set the pc3200 to run at 333mhz not 400mhz?

Worth a try, esp is its in sync with the cpu.
