Right as i understand the prices for both these cpus will drop on the 24th July, what i am wanting to know is which is better to get, im not planning on overclockering, a Socket AM2 or a Socket 939,

As said before you should go AM2 as thats they way AMD are going now. 939 is being phased out and soon(december) you wont be able to find much for it.

So this move to AM2 is just so they can have ddr2 support?

No real world noticeable gains over 939?

Why did they have to change the socket ? surely they could have kept it on 939?

If they changed the socket for practically no gain this is robbery and I hope AMD die a slow death !!

If I am totally wrong please enlighten me ........

They changed the socket so they could get more money out of the man on the street, as he'll have to buy all new hardware. Well I think so, anyway .

I think you made a good choice there with the AM2. Are you thinking of OCing it at all? I would love to see how the AM2 CPUs do compared to the S939 ones. You would even have your very own cell in my table :)
