Anyone tried this, or have an opinion on if it would be successful...

I have a dead Dell 1557, just the power connector, or maybe mobo, I'm pretty sure the components are good, memory, processor etc. The processor is Socket G1; an Intel i7-720QM.

There are a good few processors in that group: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socket_G1

If I get hold of another laptop with any one of those processors in it; I'm thinking of the cheapest I can find with a discrete graphics card as the i7 above has no integrated graphics, can I simply swap the processors over and expect the machine to still work OK?

For example I could get my hands on an Inspiron 15 with an i3-330m and Radeon HD 4330 as a traget machine.
