Hi All,

Are we only getting a choice of two CPU,s or is there going to be a cheaper version released in the near future?

i7-3930K and i7-3960X

Intel Sandy Bridge E processors that we know of and going to be released.

Ivy Bridge-E will come out for them too in the future. Probably another 3 chips as above but in Ivy Bridge-E configuration and goodness. They do state the X79 is Gen3-ready-ish ;) and only Ivy Bridge has Gen3 support, so clearly Ivy Bridge-E is coming to 2011 sockets. I will not be surprised if we see an 8 core and 16 threaded Ivy Bridge if they can keep the power requirements to 130W but I feel Intel does not want to give non-server platforms more then 6 cores and 12 threads yet, even Haswell is a 4 core and 8 threads chip that is coming to the mainstream platforms and maybe Haswell-E may finally give non-server platforms 8 cores and 16 threads, but again I doubt it and it will come on the next new manufacturing process, so Haswell Ivy-E we will call that for now lol, don't know the official name for it and that is if they have one yet.

Overclocking Enabled - YES (partial) - Core i7 3820

As the table above highlights, both 3960X and 3930K are unlocked processors, while the cheaper 3820 allows for ‘partial’ overclocking. This means the user can adjust the core multiplier to a preset maximum.

Also you can overclock sandy bridge-E with the BCLK too like the 1366 platforms had. Check this video at 21 minutes into it.

3930k is in stock at some suppliers as we speak, the 3820 is MIA at the moment but guessing we will see that next week too or by the end of the month in stock.

I would call that partially unlocked as you can overclock it but only up to a preset maximum, so what will the 3820 be? limited voltage adjustment etc? starting multi 36 up to a max of 38?

I wonder if the new Ivy Bridge chips will overclock like SB-E? That would be handy even if its just the BCLK that way we can buy the cheaper models.
