With the release of the open beta yesterday I would have thought there would be more chat on here about the game.

Plot:

Outnumbered. Outgunned. Under Fire. Take control. You have six days. Six days to rescue an entire country plunged into chaos by a brutal revolution. Race against time to control a dire situation that threatens to escalate into global war. You are the legendary and fearless Operations Commander as you take command of the battlefield with your crack NATO squad. The destination is Southeast Asia. The time is now for you to take control…

GAME FEATURES
Dynamic Command — expertly command the battlefield by utilising squad tactics to flank and outmaneuver your enemy, designate hostile targets, and call in devastating airstrikes — all with dynamic, intuitive ease.
Move into the Action — high precision control over shooting, melee fighting and commanding your squad, the PlayStation®Move delivers the most immersive combat experience ever.
Squad Based Multiplayer — utilise team dynamics online with an all new 32 person multiplayer.

Give it a try and see what you think.

I gave it a try, and hate it, im not a massive 3rd person shooter fan, but this was like going back to a ps1 game with shiney gfx, a total waste of download time.

I totally understand if people don't like SOCOM; it's definitely not for everyone; but what does that even mean?

Personally, I love it. Tactical, objective-based shooter that's even better in a team. Plenty of game modes, good maps and fantastic graphics. Instabuy on the 22nd.

Yeah it isn't for everyone. Relies more on tactical game play and team work. At least it should keep the little kids away. Hopefully they stay on BOPS and BFBC2!

I mean it has awfull controls, and a terrbile camera view, trying to spot some one was almost guess work, even on a big telly.

After waiting roughly 2 hours for it to download, install and update,I then couldn't even find a match.
I have to admit I wasn't happy with the control scheme. Why can't they just allow us to choose our own buttons? or at least have a setup like every other shooter has?

There's a controller option that's almost exactly the same as COD, what more do you want :D

Closest one I saw had aim & shoot on L1 & R1 - why can't I have it as L2 & R2. And weapon swap as L2?! Bah!

That's pretty standard for shooters nowadays. And on the COD-a-like L2 is prone/crouch/stand...triangle is weapon swap.

Handy for those of us that are too old to learn any more than 1 controller setup :D

Got a copy of this on day one, traded in some stuff, so got this for £16 - which ironically is what I think it's worth!

Considering this has been trumped, from what I've seen/heard, as an A list game, it's seriously not, but of course, this is my opinion.

Only played two levels of it (as that's all the time I've got on it so far) but these haven't been enjoyable at all, some of my own thoughts:

  • It's far too scripted, I could send my team ahead, only for a group of enemy to spawn out of nowhere when I walk past!
  • Very arcade.
  • The weapons don't give any real impression of power, so don't really do much to immerse you.
  • The voice acting of your team just sounds like Americans trying their hand at British accents and got pretty annoying.
  • The camera angle is too close to your player, so makes you feel too closed in during play, there's also no shoulder swap when aiming!
  • The AI is horrendous, even on the hardest settings, both sides seem to have no self preservation, nor can they spot eachother at close range sometimes.
  • The game has some serious issues with scenery - tried shooting through a gap (big enough to stick your head through if you could), in this collapsed building, and the rounds went nowhere!

Sure it looks nice and the sound is pretty decent, but I personally don't rate it at all, and I'm hoping that when I trade it in soon, I'll get enough to try the new Flashpoint - though I understand this is being slated a bit too...

Hey ho, just my thoughts peeps, agree or disagree, it's the nature of a forum :D

I would guess by the lack of discussion on this game that everybody else either hates it or isn't bothered about getting it.

Was a time I was tempted, but think I will just let it pass me by.

Either that, or they're the die hard who couldn't take PSN being down and have topped themselves :D

Best thing about PSN being down is that this game isnt being played :p. Found the Beta average at best...

ps3ud0

for this game you need to work as a team and use voice chat.

1 in 50 people on psn have a headset and 1 in a million is up for working as a team.

unless your in a clan or have lots of mates who play this, the game is like trying to climb everest.
