After being in storage for years, I've cracked out the old sodastream machine and have begun the fun process of carbonating water.

Now the canister refills are not cheap but I've seen that you can refill them yourself with the right adapter for a co2 canister. I feel it may also be a good way of force carbonating future homebrew. I've watched a helpful video and it explains the process but it looks like a minefield sourcing a co2 canister.

Does anyone do this? Anyone got any tips for co2 suppliers?

Can't believe I never thought to look into this, especially seeing as my other half squirrels the empties away and never actually returns them before it's too late!

Been doing this years with an adaptor.

I use a place in Middleton, Manchester. £20 for a 6kg refill.
Same, food grade syphon type cylinder gets me about 20-25 refills, have the adapter for both our quooker Cube and Aarke machines. As long as you freeze the bottles for a few hours before filling you get a good fill each time.

I've been doing this for a while now. Just recently swapped my big canisters as it was nearly empty, £35 for a refill. Great value considering it lasted about 18 months. It just kept on going and going, tbh there was probably some gas left in the one I took back but it had definitely lost its 'punch'.

I keep my canister under the stairs and have drilled through from the kitchen directly to the machine! Very happy!
