sof2

I loved the game and played it loads.
I still have my copy plugged up some where.

More games need to take a leaf out of SOF1/2's book, i.e. the realistic weapon damage...yes, it might earn the game a 18+ rating, but nowadays everyone wants realistic physics, graphics etc, yet a double barrelled shotgun to the face of a humanoid at point blank range still tends to either gib them completely or just knock them over.

I'm not a sadist, I just expect bits to come off things when I hit them with high powered weaponry.

I still play it all the time, been playing for years now with my clan, won afew trophys/cups etc.

Best online FPS gameplay ever.

SOF2 was for me the best online shooter ever and I did pretty good most of the time, i later tried others like CSS but found the gun physics to be irritating in comparison, i think SOF2 had that just right but it's possible it could be slightly improved, i've found most other games just not any good when it comes to gun physics and hit points.

I get the feeling that the negative press about the ghoul engine is one of the reasons we aren't seeing realistic weapon damage in games...which is a damn shame. It would seem rather silly as well since there has always been an option in SOF to turn off the 'gore'.

I wonder if anyone has tried 'modding in' realistic damage to any games.

I still play this online clearly the best online fps ever! esp with the OSP tweaks or ROCmod

I guess there might also be some technical reasons why modern games don't (headshots aside) exploit location based damage a lot more. I'd imagine it could cause some problems with clientside prediction, e.g. due to internet lag it would be hard for your client to know the exact location you hit until updated by the server.

I seem to remember that even SiN, a 1998 game utilised location-specific damage, and yet it seems to have fallen by the wayside in modern FPS.

The gore argument doesn't necessarily wash with me, since games like Painkiller are just as brutal in terms of claret splattered floors and limbs bouncing off walls. I think the main problem people had with SoF2 was more a question of it depicting violence against humans, which doesn't seem to go down too well in some circles. Rumour has it, one of the reasons Halflife 2 features masked "combine" rather than more humanoid features is in order to get a lower classification.

^I'm not overly convinced by what I've just written since location-based damage on non-human characters isn't really that interesting to most of anyway, since it's hard to relate to. Blowing someone's leg off is a lot more appealling that blowing a tentacle off some creature or whatevre.

Yep, I loved it, but the constant accusations of cheater/hacker became to tiresome, plus many of the players who I 'looked up to' when I started all were moving on, but I'm forever awaiting SoF3

Lo Nick ;)

I used to play it loads back in the day. I too felt the weapons and realistic damage were awesome, and some of the maps were the best i've ever played in an online FPS.

Great game, may reinstall :D
