Sofa bed recommendation

Ok, I can't believe I'm actually going to ask this (wow old age musta kicked in) but here goes...

We're having an extension built at the moment and I like to get a Sofa bed in there so it can double up as an extra bedroom for when we have family over etc.

Has anyone come across a sofa bed where the bed bit is actually decent and a couple could sleep on it for 2 or three nights without being crippled for life? preferably looking for something where the bed part is 4'6" or wider.

We've done some looking around etc but it strikes me that this sort of thing may be best judged by personal experience/recommendation. Every Sofa bed I've slept on has left me thinking the floor would have been a better option. :)

Any ideas?

Depends how much you want to spend, but don't get one which is only designed for occasional use, get one which is designed to be used all the time as a bed.

Parents have an M&S sofa bed in the back TV / Games room which can double up as a bedroom when loads of guests come round. Was quite expensive (over 1k) is a 2.5 seater, has a metal frame, and is very comfy, good enough to spend a week on and not feel dead, it also weighs as much as a car.

That's the sort of thing - looking to spend up to £1k as we want it to be a reasonably decent sofa/bed and not have it cripple guests or self destruct in a year :)

We're trying some out in the usual furniture stores but just wondered if anyone had stumbled across something that fits the bill from experience.

Have been tremendously impressed with my 3 seater, lounging on it right now! It's pretty good looking for a sofa and supremely comfortable to sit on and sleep on. Once I get a larger house, this will go in a study to act as a spare bed when required.

We have one of these for guests and it works well: http://www.sofabed.co.uk/le-clic-clac-sofa-bed.html.

We chose it because the 'fold' of the bed runs vertically between you instead of horizontally right across the middle of your back, so people sleep much more comfortably.

I had a bed like this for several years when I was still living with my parents, was great for me and my girlfriend when she stayed over, must have more comfortable than any other sofa bed I've slept on!

What sort of width are you looking for? We got one from furniture village which has a metal frame and wooden slats. It's only a double and has no arms which is a bit odd but is good and comfortable as a bed. We use it for when my stepson is home from uni so is used for weeks not days. It cost around £800.

Thanks for the info folks, looking for a 3 seater that will allow a 4' 6" bed (i.e proper double size) :)

The trick seems to be finding something with a decent mattress that hasn't got bars in the wrong place leaving you crippled after a nights sleep. Investigating the le clic clac as it sound promising! :)

The clic clac I had was lovely as rather than being some foam that can fold over on it'self to fit into a sofa and hence being fairly thin and soft, it was essentially two sprung mattresses attached next to each other.

The only very minor issue I had was that the two halfs can move away from each other a bit and you can end up rolling into the middle but to be honest that was only really after a few years of daily use and was simply remedied by adding an elasticated strap round the middle that held the halves together.
