I'm considering buying a sofa measuring H82xW184xD85cm (assembled) but am getting paranoid about it fitting through 2 separate doors into my lounge.

The first door is 78cmX200cm and my lounge door is 71cmX200cm.

There's no chance of getting this through surely. Is there?

There's no way to tell without knowing what sort of shape it is, as you'd be surprised what you can fit through a door way with some twisting and turning.

You'd be suprised.

One of my sofas is H 95 x W 236 x D 99cm and has moved house twice with us.

Saying that, the 71cm door is a touch narrow. Shouldn't be an issue though.

I had a sofa and chair delivered. The guys took the front door off its hinges, upvc job, but squeezed it through the internal door. It was a 762mm door. Might be worth taking the door off its hinges for the smaller door though.

Phone the company and give your door measurements to be sure. I had a problem with an ikea sofa not fitting through the door on delivery. Luckily I got a full refund but would double check everything now.

The easiest option is to take the window out, don't force it through narrow areas because you'll just mark your walls and new furniture. A local window fitter will take it out and refit it for around £40.

Thanks all. I'll definitely be contacting whoever I buy from and finding out their policy for returned goods that cannot be delivered.

I'll probably end up with inflatable chairs at this rate. :p

Quite a lot of sofa places seem to have can't be delivered, return at not cost type service, I would imagine that would be based on having to give them accurate measurements upfront so they get it wrong rather than you but other than inconvenience I doubt that would be a problem.

Other option is buying modular style furniture that comes in pieces maybe, theres got to be a company or two that specialise in sofas that can be quickly dismantled and put back together.

The legs probably come off. I had a nightmare with the last 3 seater I bought, got stuck on second set of stairs to flat. Delivery guys took uPVC window out on communal landing and had to take the dust sheet off to remove one of the arms and then reassemble once in place. Was such a relief when we found out the arms came off as the shop had said it didn't have any option to dismantle it in that way. Land of Leather didn't refund delivery cost if it went back as non deliverable either and I had bought it on a finance arrangement so I don't know what would have happened in the worst case scenario. I shall never forget thumbing through the yellow pages for a glazing company whilst the delivery guys were getting jittery.
