Hi,

Daft question, but can you use a push to open system if you've got soft close runners?

I'm looking at adding an under the stairs cupboard. I want a push to open system but not sure if it'll work with the soft close or just get normal runners.

thanks

I don’t have a solution but just wanted to say very very weirdly I was thinking about this exact thing last night (soft close handleless understairs cupboard storage).

Edit: quick google and I keep seeing these guys come up:

I just wonder, if there isn’t such a thing as soft close as well as push to open runners, could you use door buffers inside.

I've been looking for runners to go under the drawer and not at the sides but either I'm searching for the wrong thing or they don't exist :D

I was thinking about chunky foam blocks glued to the back of the drawer. As long as they weren't too big to force it open it would soften the close.

Surely you can use standard runners but mount them on the bottom?
Unless theres space restriction of course...
I might be wrong though :D

My understanding of runners is they use small bearings on the top and bottom to provide the glide. If I mount these underneath the bearings will be at the sides and the force will push the metal runner against the metal slide causing friction, noice and Iforces the runners weren't designed for. It may work fine but I'd rather buy runners designed to go underneath than test some to find out.

Fair enough, I see your point.
I am just used to the ones we have at work which are "heavy duty" and pressed so compact you don't have much play so essentially they are squeezed together.

IIRC IKEA do some push to open that just screw to the inside of the cabinet frame so are not directly attached to the runners

Our lounge has push to open, but they also act as soft close, but manual soft close if that makes sense, ie you have to push them in the last 1cm or so, so that the push to open clicks into place

Think they are these ones actually

Not exactly what you are after but may be worth a look as I say the mech of the push to open means you have to do a final little click into place

The only other ones I have seen are push to open or soft close, ie you can switch the option
