Softice on XP- Issue

Right, I've got a ridiculous issue here

I've installed Softice in a VMware'd version of WinXP, nothing special.
I've got one dealbreaking issue though- I can't enter the

Code:

character, meaning that searching memory is impossible.

They keyboard is a Razer Lycosa, and predictably the offending character works just fine everywhere else, both in the real and virtual machines.
May well end up reimaging a spare box for this, but I can't see why on earth this isn't working.

Anyone seen anything like this at all?

can you copy/paste the char? or does softice not work with the clipboard? try a spare keyboard if you have one, this maybe driver related....

or the onscreen keyboard from accessibility menu?

SoftICE pauses Windows whilst it's active from what I remember so on-screen keyboards won't be usable.

From Googling.. is this what you need instead?

OT, is there any modern kernel debuggers to replace Softice? It must have been killed 4 years ago now? Any viable replacements?
