Software Access Point?

Hi, I am getting a laptop for school work, which I want to connect wirelessly.

I have a wireless access point, which just reaches my bedroom, and the only wireless card that will pick it up is the one on my PC which I used to use, now I have ethernet I don't use it.

Can I make that PCI card a software wireless access point for free?
