Bonjour mes amis.

Here's the plan:

Sophisticated Art/Music/Literature Site
Works in similar way to deviantArt - Upload, comment etc.
Social networking... quite like the dA profiles but with a more Facebook feel
Personal blogs
Featured Art/Music/Literature on home page

Main Components
Image viewer
Music uploading and playback... maybe MySpace style?
Maybe a pretty flash interface for the literature? If not, will do fine as a simple text entry.
Social Networking aspects
Own profile pages
Blogging page

Now this is a very messy outline of the plan.

What software would be ideal to have a good crack at this?

Have been looking at Wordpress, Drupal etc.

Never looked at the top gear site so no idea! Its not expensive, its very well priced, people are just used to using WP so expect everything to come for free.
I run it on one of my sites and love it

Well worth the purchase as its per box not per website!
