Software connecting camera to mac

hi,

Whenever i see a photo shoot on the tv they have the camera connected directly to a mac and whenever they take a photo it shows straight up on the screen. Anyone know what software they use? I take it you need a camera with the specific feature aswell.

They are using the Mac to remote-trigger the camera, just as a normal remote would do.
