Just wondering is there like any software addons for anything that you can download? Features made by other people, you know like scripts for XBMC on xbox's and also anywere to get animated backgrounds and loads of new themes.

Also were do I go about getting a ps3 gamertag?

Thanks.

Thanks.

You can get new themes from a couple of websites either on the PC or direct from the PS3 browser couple of links for ya http://www.allps3themes.com/
and http://www.psu.com/themes.php
. You can also get themes etc for free of PSN, there are no application type downloads and i doubt there will be for a long while and those will be illegal i would think.

I am very new to the PS3. I just got mine on friday with prologue. I did notice a section on the ps3 options with something like Install OS. Is this pretty straight forward stuff. Could i install Linux Ubuntu Os on it?

There's a PS3 version of linux, it's made especially for it but the name escapes me. The only thing is, i think installing an OS completely overwrites the current PS3 OS... but dont quote me on it, cause i havent tried it myself yet.

I have been reading a few guides on it, i cant follow it very well. I wouldnt like to overwrite it all.

YellowDog linux. You install it on the hard drive and boot it from the PS3 XMB. It doesn't overwrite the PS3 OS. It runs a lot like when you dual boot Windows & Linux.

Theres a link to it just a few posts above yours in this very thread.

No offense, but if you can't navigate their web site and download the installation iso then perhaps trying to install linux on your PS3 is not for you :p

That is the link i have been using, everytime i try to get into a directory i just end up at a dead end, my browser says it doesnt exist.

Any ideas?

Edit : Managed to find one link that works from sweden, shame its 3gb's though....

Will check the links tonight to see, I cant at the moment but under United Kingdom I'd be surprised if the mirror.ac.uk one isn't working.

3gb sounds about right, it is a full operating system after all with quite a few built in apps. You'll have to partition the PS3's hard disc so that you can install it but there more details on how to do that in the above link. :)

Cheers Andshrew, i have already partitioned it so that 10gb was allocated to the Other OS, i was just about to insert the Linux Ubuntu Cd to install that, but i changed my mind at the last min and though i would go with YDL instead. Got about 1 hour left on the download :(

With mirror.ac.uk, I just get DNS error cannot be found. The other UK sites do not work either...
