Software fax shared with phone?

Hi. I want to use my computer as a fax machine with it's built in modem. This will share the same line as the house phone.

I've seen devices that detect a fax signal and send it automatically to the fax machine. Can I do this with a PC machine?

I don't want the pc to pick up phone calls - so can it check what a call is and then only answer it if it's a fax?

using WIndows xp btw.
